Regional assistance for seniors: Projekt Kraft supports AWO-projects combating loneliness in old age

This year, Projekt Kraft is once again promoting donations instead of gifts. This tradition has been particularly important to us for many years, especially because we deliberately use our donations regionally. It is important to us to get to know the people and institutions personally, to experience how help works on the ground, and to ensure that our support goes where it is really needed.

A place of encounter – commitment that touches the heart

The Tennenbacher Platz retirement home in Freiburg offers older people not only a home, but also a real community. The focus is on self-determination, security, social contacts, and an active life in old age. Attached to the residential complex is a meeting place that offers a diverse space for exchange, culture, and activities – open to residents and the neighborhood.

There are projects and activities that counteract loneliness in old age, such as:

• Dance evenings and summer concerts
• Cooking and making music together
• Open cafés
• Gymnastics classes
• Cultural experiences
• Cooperation with surrounding daycare centers that bring young and old together

During our visit, we also had the opportunity to meet some of the residents. The anticipation for upcoming events—especially the planned dance evening—was palpable. It was immediately clear to us that:\

Enthusiasm, passion, and real added value for the region

We were particularly impressed by the great commitment and palpable passion with which Ms. Kemper and Ms. Winterhalter run the facility. With heart and empathy, they have created a place that has become the center of life for many people.
